The following Internet resources provide access to important information that may help you to understand your country and the other countries in the simulation. International diplomats are always very well schooled about the issues that they confront. A thorough understanding of the topics will be to your advantage in the negotiations.

 

CULTURE & DIVERSITY

Anthropology Resources on the Net:

Includes some links to a variety of sites that focus on culture.

Anthropology in the News:

Maintained by the Department of Anthropology at Texas A&M University, this site provides information on cultural issues that are currently in the news.

Indigenous People: International Decade 1995-2004

Part of the larger UN page, this site offers information on the reasons for and activities related to the UN "International Decade."

Cultural Survival:

A nonprofit organization that focuses on the problems of indigenous peoples and oppressed ethnic minorities. Provides links.

Native Web:  

A primary resource center for those interested in issues concerning Native Americans.

Out There News:

This site is great for information about the three major ethnic groups in Bosnia.

 

 

 

 

INTERNATIONAL ECONOMICS

 

The World Factbook:

This site has maps, economic data, government data and some demographic data about all the world’s countries. This is an excellent site for some important factual information.

UN Development Program:

Some data from the annual "Human Development Report" are available at this site.

Japan International Cooperation Agency:

The JICA, a unit of Japan’s Official Development Assistance Program, provides an extended explanation of participatory development in its report, "Participatory Development and Good Governance."

US Agency for International Development:

Provides maps, charts, and other data, and includes information on the agency’s projects.

 

 

GLOBAL ENVIRONMENT

 

Care:

Care is a non-governmental organization that provides information about its projects and data about major world issues (such as hunger, poverty, health, environment, and education).

Environmental Protection Agency:

A great resource for researching a variety of environmental issues such as global warming.

Envirofacts:

The Environmental protection agency’s (EPA) Data Warehouse that integrates data extracted monthly from five facility (or site) based EPA program systems.

Global Environmental Outlook:

This site provides regularly updated information on environmental issues around the world.

National Wildlife Federation:

This is the homepage for the National Wildlife Federation, a well-known environmental group. The focus is on environmental issues in the United States but the site offers some good links to other sites.

UN Division for Sustainable Development:

This website includes information on environmental concerns and sustainable development. It includes a search engine.

Amanaka’s Amazon Network:

This nongovernmental organization (NGO) homepage offers links to some great environmental sites relating to the Amazon and other environmental issues.

Rainforest Action Network:

This site provides children’s programs, educational materials and links to some related sites.

UN Environmental Program:

Provides updates of UNEP programs and links to other sites.

The International Policy Institute for Counter-Terrorism (Israel):

A current, well-maintained source of Counter-Terrorism incidents as well as resources (both documents and electronic) from various countries.

US Department of the State:

This site provides the State Department’s reports on terrorism.

World News Index:

Here you will find a site that will help you find important news articles from around the world.

United Nations Homepage:

A good source of information on members and current projects of the U.N.

University of Western Australia:

An important site for information on treaties and conventions.

Care:

Care is a non-governmental organization that provides information about its projects and data about major world issues (such as hunger, poverty, health, environment, and education).

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:

This US Government site contains up-to -date information on health concerns throughout the world.

Pan American Health Organization:

Contains country health profiles for member states.

UNAIDS:

This is the homepage for the joint UN program on HIV/AIDS. It contains important information on the status of the disease around the world and the search for treatment.

World Health Organization:

The WHO is a UN organization. This page contains descriptions of the WHO’s mission and details international health projects.

 

 

 

HUMAN RIGHTS

Amnesty International:

Amnesty International is a non-governmental organization that is deeply involved in the struggle for international human rights. There is information about current activities as well as links to other human rights organizations.

Human Rights Watch:

This site provides information on human rights issues around the world. It has a search engine provides links and an archive of news reports categorized by region.


University of Minnesota Human Rights Library:
