RecallsIf an item is checked out, another patron can recall it for his or her own use. This service is provided only for UConn faculty, staff, retirees, students, those officially designated as visiting scholars or university affiliates, and community borrowers. Placing a RecallPatrons place the recalls themselves; student staff are available to assist.
TroubleshootingMake sure the steps above were precisely followed. Recalls do not work for materials having limited loan periods (e.g., reserves, videos). See the access services supervisor for further assistance. What Happens Next? After the recall is placed, the system sends a notice via email to the current borrower, asking him or her to return the item. Usually a new due date is assigned; the current borrower has about ten days to return the item. It is very important that recalled materials be returned before the revised due date as there is a significant fine (generally $5/day). Borrowers who receive recall notices should try to be courteous and return materials as soon as possible, especially if materials are no longer needed. Library staff do not usually call borrowers, though exceptions are made for outstanding circumstances. WARNING: Borrowers who are temporarily unable to respond to recall notices should designate a second individual to be responsible for checking mail (or email) and returning recalled books. Contact the access services supervisor for other options. When the item is returned, it is placed on the hold shelf. The system sends a notice to the requester, letting him or her know that the item is available. Requesters can check their library records in HOMER (click on the Renew Books / View Account button) to check the status of their recalls. In all cases, both the borrower's and requester's identities remain confidential.
