Thomas P. Wilsted Director
Tom Wilsted is the Director of the Thomas J. Dodd Research Center and Head of the Archives & Special Collections Department. He is also the Curator for the Nursing History and Public Polling Collections. Mr. Wilsted has over 30 years of experience in a wide variety of libraries, archives and historical agencies. Before coming to the Dodd Research Center in 1996, he was the Associate Director of the American Heritage Center at the University of Wyoming in Laramie, WY; the Director of the Salvation Army Archives; and Manuscripts Librarian at the National Library of New Zealand. His interests include helping institutions planning for and building archival facilities, and in 1991 co-authored Managing Archives and Manuscripts Repositories for the Soceity of American Archivists, and has recently completed a publication titled Planning New and Remodeled Archival Facilities. Other areas of focus include partnerships, grant writing, fund raising, public programming and long-range planning. Mr. Wilsted received his Bachelor of Arts in History from Kalamazoo College, Kalamazoo, MI and his Master of Arts from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI, majoring in American History with emphasis on the Civil War. He is also a certified Archivist by the Academy of Certified Archivists. He currently serves on several boards including the Roper Center for Public Opinion Research and as a Gubernatorial appointment to the Connecticut Historical Records Advisory Board.
